Funds & Giving Options

Every individual, family and corporate donor has unique interests, assets and circumstances. That’s why our custom fund vehicles, from scholarships to donor advised funds, allow for flexibility and a host of solutions for your giving. We also accept a wide range of asset types, including ones that many commercial brokerage firms are unable to accommodate.

Fund Types
Donor Advised Fund

A donor advised fund is a flexible giving vehicle that offers immediate tax benefits and allows donors to support the charities of their choice on their own schedule through grant recommendations.

Private Foundation Alternative Fund

A private foundation alternative fund enables donors to facilitate their family’s charitable giving activities without all the administrative and management burdens of a traditional private family foundation.

Unrestricted Fund

Unrestricted funds allow donors to ensure their gifts go to support the most pressing community needs and the most effective solutions, however they may change over time. The Future of L.A. Fund is a special unrestricted fund that provides a simple and efficient giving mechanism for donors who want to focus their gifts on high-priority needs within Los Angeles County as identified by CCF’s expert advisors.

Field of Interest Fund

A field of interest fund allows donors to make an impact on their area of interest without committing to any specific organization by authorizing CCF’s experts to issue appropriate grants on their behalf. For example, if you wish to support children’s health, CCF staff will identify the most effective organizations working in the field to receive your funds. If the issue area changes, as when orphanages were replaced by the foster care system, our staff will work to seek out new organizations whose work fulfills your original charitable intent.

Restricted Fund

A restricted fund empowers donors to support specific organizations of their choosing through regular grant making without having to manually execute recommendations for every grant occurrence.

Scholarship Fund

A scholarship fund lets donors choose a fund option, establish criteria and determine their own degree of involvement while supporting students of any age, background or education level.

The Community Revitalization Fund

Capacity-building has continuously been a buzz-word within the philanthropic arena that has been defined and interpreted to mean any variety of activities. However, as our nonprofit neighbors and the communities they serve face more intense and more intentional barriers than ever before, capacity-building has to similarly take a more targeted and tactical approach. The Community Revitalization Fund provides support to nonprofit organizations in a way that simultaneously enhances their capacity to survive the daily onslaught of challenges they face while also further positioning them to achieve sustainability for the programs that they provide to their respective communities. We do this by investing in their teams. This fund focuses on work happening across the State of California but also supports some work nationally. You may also send checks payable to the California Community Foundation, noting that the donation is for The Community Revitalization Fund. Checks should be mailed to: California Community Foundation 717 W Temple St. Los Angeles, CA 90012

Altadena Rising

Altadena Rising: Trusted Relationships, Civic Capacity, Communication, and Community Power-Building after the Eaton Fire Instagram: @AltadenaRising | Website: altadenarisingnow.org  Altadena Rising was born out of hundreds of conversations with impacted families who were devastated by the impacts of the Eaton Fire.  We are Dena-raised Black organizers who are deeply rooted in the community, and we understand both the local realities and the systemic barriers at play. We also work closely with local organizers, public leaders, and power-holding entities, all of which are key to Altadena’s full recovery.  Since the fire hit on January 7, we’ve been helping Altadena’s Black and most vulnerable families navigate to the relief they need. We’ve been listening carefully to our community, and moving quickly to connect them to resources, housing, funding, and more.  While we center Altadena’s Black and most vulnerable families, we also organize across local organizers to collectively serve all families. We’ve been connecting with those who are providing relief and representing Altadena at decision-making tables, building capacity with strategic relationships and serving as a reliable communication source. Altadena Rising has the relationships that government agencies rely on. We advocate for impacted families’ voices to be centered as we collectively build the infrastructure for Altadena’s future. By serving as the connective tissue between families, local groups, philanthropy, and public government systems, we are making sure resources flow where they’re needed most, and our community builds its power. The Sara Nelson Fund

“Mothers of the Mountains” Susan Nelson, Margo Feuer and Jill Swift The Sara Nelson Fund has been established to support Santa Monica Mountains Fund (SAMO Fund), founded in 1988 and the official partner of the National Park Service for the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area — the largest and most diverse urban park in the United States. Encompassing over 500 miles of trail systems and nearly 160,000 acres of open space, it extends from the western end of the Santa Monica Mountains in Ventura County, along the entire Malibu coast, and stretches through the hills surrounding the Palisades, Brentwood, Beverly Hills and the Hollywood Bowl. The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area was the brainchild and lifelong passion of Sara’s mother, committed environmental activist Susan Nelson, who started the “Friends of the Santa Monica Mountains, Parks and Seashore” group in 1964 in response to proposed large-scale development planned in the Malibu hills. Over the next decade she joined forces with two other local activists, Margo Feuer and Jill Swift, and together the three fought tirelessly against developers and political opposition to put forward Congressional legislation to establish the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in 1978, followed by the creation of Santa Monica Mountains Fund ten years later to make sure these beautiful wildlands are maintained, preserved and protected for future generations. Anyone who has spent a day at the beach in Malibu, hiked in Runyon Canyon or the Westridge Trailhead, or gone horseback riding in Will Rogers State Park has been the beneficiary of all the hard work and dedication of Susan and her fellow “Mothers of the Mountains.” They are directly responsible for creating and sustaining this vast, unique natural habitat that’s a key part of what makes Southern California the envy of the world, attracting nearly one million visitors a year. However, the challenges facing the Santa Monica Mountains continue, resulting from the new normal of nearly year-round wildfire seasons, habitat loss and shrinking federal budgets. It makes SAMO Fund’s perpetuation of what Nelson and her fellow “Mothers” created even more critical, and why Susan’s daughter, Sara, who carried on her mother’s commitment by supporting and chairing the board of SAMO Fund for many years, has endowed this Fund. Supporting the Sara Nelson Fund will not only honor Susan Nelson’s legacy, but will directly provide the steady, ongoing flow of unrestricted resources necessary to ensure SAMO Fund’s programs and its continuing of support of the SMMNRA. Department of Angels

The Department of Angels was born out of hundreds of conversations with community members, disaster experts, and survivors of the megafires. Since January 7, we’ve talked to individuals directly impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fires and to leaders who have guided other communities through megafire recovery. We learned that success or failure often turns on the capacity of community members to design and lead their own recovery. Our mission is to serve that purpose. Just as our elected officials have staff, and our private-sector leaders have staff and resources to help them, the Department of Angels exists to provide capacity for our community. Our purpose is to ensure that the communities impacted by the Eaton and Palisades megafires steward their own recovery. The Department of Angels is not a government or private-sector initiative; it is a grassroots, community-driven network focused on ensuring impacted residents have control over their recovery. The Department of Angels will provide independent resources, expert-informed solutions, and project management support to empower residents to rebuild on their terms. We believe it takes more than brick and mortar construction to rebuild communities. It requires community organizing and sustained attention. The Department of Angels is here to help Los Angeles recover. Department of Angels is component fund of CCF Community Initiatives Fund (CCF-CIF), a supporting organization of the California Community Foundation. Contributions to CCF-CIF represent irrevocable gifts subject to the legal and fiduciary control of the foundation’s board of directors. Donors to Department of Angels will receive a tax acknowledgement letter from CCF-CIF upon making a completed gift.
