Rising Together: Meeting the Moment for Our Los Angeles Neighbors

The warehouse fire affecting Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles, and surrounding communities is a stark reminder that even as one crisis fades, another can quickly emerge. For more than a week, families have endured smoke-filled skies, school and business disruptions, lost wages, and serious concerns about the long-term health impacts of poor air quality.

In response, the California Community Foundation has activated our Impact Fund to support a rapid, community-centered response as of today announced grants to over 20 community organizations to provide immediate relief to communities, Working alongside trusted neighborhood-based organizations, we are helping provide food, masks, air purifiers, and other essential resources to residents who need them most.

Over the past year, we have witnessed the very best of Los Angeles. When devastating wildfires displaced families and destroyed entire neighborhoods, thousands of you stepped forward with extraordinary generosity. Together, we helped our neighbors find shelter, access emergency assistance, and begin the long road to recovery.

As our nation prepares to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, I also find myself reflecting on the enduring promise of America. Our nation was founded on ideals of liberty, opportunity, and equal justice. Throughout our history, each generation has been called to help make those ideals more real and more accessible to all. While many families still face significant barriers and challenges, our shared values continue to inspire hope and action.

That belief is what drives our work at CCF. The challenges facing our communities strengthen our commitment to expanding opportunity, supporting those in need, and building pathways to a better future. We believe that when every person has the chance to succeed, our entire community—and our country—becomes stronger. Today, we are being called to show up once again—this time for the families of Boyle Heights and the Eastside.

This month’s stories reflect both the challenges we face and the extraordinary people rising to meet them: immigrant entrepreneurs rebuilding their businesses, community leaders preserving cultural institutions, and young people creating tools to help families navigate uncertain times. Together, these stories remind us that resilience, compassion, and civic engagement remain among Los Angeles’ greatest strengths.

Even amid these challenges, this season invites us to reflect on the kind of community we aspire to be—one where every person is treated with dignity, every family has the opportunity to thrive, and we respond to moments of hardship with compassion and action.

Thank you for being part of this work with us and for helping build a more hopeful and inclusive future for all and join us in meeting this moment by supporting the CCF Impact Fund.
