Bilingual online clearinghouse provides Los Angeles’ immigrant community with the information resources they need to protect and empower themselves LOS ANGELES,CA — A cross sector coalition has come together to address concerns from immigrant communities in Los Angeles about new immigration enforcement policies and actions. The coalition, comprised of Mayor Eric Garcetti and other public officials, immigrant advocacy organizations, and Spanish-language media groups, is launching the www.protegete.us website, which will serve as a resource hub for immigrant communities, as part of the ¡Protégete!…¡EmpodérateYa! (Protect Yourself! Empower Yourself!) campaign. The ¡Protégete!…¡Empodérate Ya! website is one of the most comprehensive clearinghouses of information resources in English and Spanish. LOS ANGELES – March 7, 2017 – The California Community Foundation (CCF) will immediately award $1.4 million in rapid response grants to 19 organizations as part of its coordinated commitment to immigrant inclusion and protection. These grants deliver critical support to organizations providing impacted communities with Know Your Rights workshops, legal representation, policy advocacy and citizenship. The goal is to offer the highest level of protection to immigrant families in need. The recently issued immigration executive orders do not represent our nation’s core values of liberty, justice and due process. These policies threaten to upend the lives of some our most vulnerable community members. “Los Angeles is a tribute to the power and positive impact of immigration. The creativity and prosperity that define our region stem directly from the incredible diversity of cultures and voices that represent it. Today the Annenberg Foundation and the California Community Foundation (CCF) officially announced the next phase of LA n Sync — the Annenberg Foundation’s acclaimed initiative bringing together the academic, civic, nonprofit, business, and philanthropic sectors to pursue and win highly competitive public funding opportunities for the Greater Los Angeles region. Effective immediately, CCF will administer LA n Sync and serve as its new home and hub. This hugely impactful collaborative is a defining moment in the world of Los Angeles Philanthropy in that it has been supported by a coalition of foundations since its inception, including: Annenberg Foundation, The Ballmer Group, Blue Shield of California Foundation, California Community Foundation, The California Endowment, The California Wellness Foundation, Conrad N. LA n Sync was created to fill the breach, establishing the infrastructure to help local communities and programs seek out, apply for, and win lucrative state and federal grants. LA n Sync identifies major funding opportunities, then works to support applicants such as local government agencies and non-profits through direct technical assistance, expert grant-writing, help raising matching funds when necessary, and connection to strategic partners, all while managing the whole process from start to finish. The effort has fueled initiatives all across the region. To date, LA n Sync has helped secure more than $191 million in federal and state grants that fund a vast array of community programs, including the Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute, Affordable Housing/Sustainable Communities grants, and Active Transportation Programs in the cities of San Fernando, Culver City and Whittier, to name just a few.
