Immigrant Families Under Attack Get a Boost as California Funders Work with the State Inside Philanthropy

Miguel Santana was quoted in a story about federal immigration enforcement and the humanitarian emergency in our immigrant communities. Through CCF’s Los Angeles Neighbors Support Fund, more than $3M has been made available to more than 3,500 families struggling to meet basic needs, and we are committed to collaborating with partners across California to support immigrant families in crisis. “During this time of unprecedented challenge, we must act with unprecedented solidarity,” said Santana.

Chase Reopens Pacific Palisades Branch Nearly One Year After Wildfire

CCF was highlighted in a story about Chase bank opening its new Pacific Palisades branch more than a year after the 2025 wildfires destroyed the previous location. The story mentioned that JPMorganChase provided more than $2 million in emergency philanthropic support to CCF, American Red Cross and the United Way of Greater Los Angeles to aid immediate relief and recovery.

ALL TWO HUMAN: New Visual Art Exhibits Come to The Music Center and Gloria Molina Grand Park

A story featured the new “Am I Next?” and “I Belong Here” projection installation at the Los Angeles Music Center. “This is a call to action,” said Miguel Santana. “Am I Next? is more than a question. It is a declaration of courage, a stand for justice and a defense of our most sacred American values, because—until justice returns—none of us is free, none of us is safe.”

Eaton and Palisades Fire Refugees Moved Near and Far — and Often

A sweeping Los Angeles Times investigation into the displacement patterns of wildfire survivors cited the Department of Angels—a nonprofit created in coordination with the California Community Foundation—whose quarterly surveys have tracked the ongoing housing instability facing tens of thousands of displaced residents, finding that 7 out of 10 people are still in temporary housing more than a year after the fires.

L.A. Council Puts Off Yet Another Attempt to Rewrite the City’s ‘Mansion Tax’

Miguel Santana was quoted in a story about the “mansion tax,” saying CCF still supports Measure ULA but has concluded that it needs to be reworked. “We believe in its mission and purpose, but we also believe that we have to respond to the unintended consequences,” he said. “And one of the unintended consequences is that it has essentially induced the equivalent of a recession on the production of housing.”

A Community Foundation Raised $100 Million After the LA Fires. Here’s What They Learned Spending It.

Miguel Santana was interviewed about the ongoing recovery from the devastating January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires and described how the California Community Foundation mobilized its Wildfire Recovery Fund after seeing the scope of the disaster from the air, saying, “Flying over it really brought light to how serious the whole thing was … From the very beginning I had a feeling this was going to be a really unprecedented disaster.” The fund raised over $100 million from nearly 50,000 donors and quickly distributed $30 million in the first month to nonprofits addressing immediate needs; in the year since it has awarded tens of millions more to support emergency relief, housing, mental health services, legal aid and long-term recovery programs, even as many survivors remain displaced and face insurance and financial barriers that the foundation is now trying to address in partnership with financial institutions.
