"How to help victims of the Southern California wildfires"

LOS ANGELES – September 5, 2017 – The California Community Foundation views President Trump’s decision to dismantle Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) as an affront to our region’s shared prosperity. Roughly 800,000 children and young adults are currently served by DACA across the United States with more than 222,000 Californians who have received DACA since the program’s inception. In LA County alone, there are over 180,000 individuals eligible for DACA. These young, bright individuals have established deep roots and have made important contributions to our society and economy. Antonia Hernández, President and CEO of the California Community Foundation issued the following statement: “Shutting down DACA injects our communities with fear, anxiety and heartache. Where our neighborhoods should be thriving, they are withering. Where our children should be learning, they are hiding. And where our businesses should be growing, they are shrinking. Strengthening immigrant communities is part of CCF’s long history of working to support the inclusion of all people in the civic and economic fabric of Los Angeles. CCF is committed to helping more new Americans integrate and thrive so together we can build a stronger and more prosperous future for all Angelenos. Today’s news reminds us how important comprehensive immigration reform is to the prosperity of our economy.
