Our Process

Partnering With CCF

CCF focuses on positive systemic change that leads to a better quality of life for all residents in Los Angeles County, particularly the most vulnerable. We’re pleased to consider applications from organizations whose work is consistent with our program goals and outcomes.

Eligible Organizations

CCF considers grant applications from 501(c)(3) nonprofits not classified as private foundations. Organizations must also be located within and primarily serving residents of Los Angeles County, except for regional, statewide or national public policy efforts that may benefit a substantial portion of the local population.

In accordance with our mission, applicant organizations may not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, national origin or disability in hiring practices or the provision of services.

Evaluation Criteria

We seek to partner with strong, sustainable organizations and use the criteria below to evaluate potential nonprofit partners:
  • The organization’s strategic plan aligns with the strategies of a CCF priority area or initiative.
  • The organization has demonstrated impact in its programs and services.
  • The organization has the ability and capacity to advance the strategies of a CCF program or initiative.
  • The organization is engaged in systemic change through civic engagement and public policy and/or collective impact.
  • The organization has the key components of a sustainable organization including a robust strategic plan, strong leadership, an engaged board with independence and transparency, and an established financial position.
  • The organization serves Los Angeles County. We pay particular attention to organizations serving Antelope Valley, eastern San Gabriel Valley and southeast L.A. County, helping us to fulfill our mandate as a county-wide funder.

Tips For Grantseekers

Our program staff has compiled a list of important and helpful tips for grantseekers to assist in the application process:
  • First, read through all the available information online. Then, if you still have questions, please call us for further clarification.
  • Focus on the outcomes you aim to achieve with a grant rather than on current challenges or statistics.
  • Describe what your organization does, and how it differs, adds to or improves upon other approaches in the space, while being respectful to the hard work and contributions of others.
  • Provide all – and only – the information requested while strictly adhering to the deadlines provided.
  • Be early in your submission. Waiting until the last minute can be risky, as tech challenges may occasionally arise. Our grantmaking is a competitive process, and we’re unable to provide extensions to the deadline.
  • We value partnerships. Consider applying collaboratively with another organization for a larger grant within the stated range of available funding.
