At the California Community Foundation (CCF), we know that strong leadership is essential to advancing our mission to expand opportunities for all Angelenos. We are pleased to announce that the Board of Directors welcomed two new members at their March meeting.

Silvia Argueta, Executive Director of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA), brings decades of experience in public interest law and advocacy. She leads LAFLA’s team of more than 100 attorneys across five offices and multiple self-help centers serving low-income residents countywide. Under her leadership, LAFLA’s budget has grown to over $50 million, and the organization completed an $18 million capital campaign. 

Prior to her appointment as Executive Director in 2008, Silvia was a senior attorney with LAFLA’s Government Benefits Unit and successfully led litigation to prevent the closure of critical medical facilities in L.A. County. Her legal career also included roles at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) and the ACLU of Southern California. 

Tony Hoang, Executive Director of Equality California and Silver State Equality, joins the board with a career dedicated to advancing LGBTQ+ equality, civil rights, and racial justice. The son of Vietnam War refugees and the first in his family to attend college, Tony has led efforts to expand Equality California’s membership to over 900,000 and pass landmark legislation protecting LGBTQ+ communities. 

Tony also serves as a Commissioner on the City of Los Angeles Innovation and Performance Commission and sits on the boards of the Equality Federation and DTLA Proud. He is a member of the CAUSE Leadership Network, the Pacific Council on International Policy, and serves as a mentor for USC Lambda’s LGBT Alumni Program. 

We are honored to welcome Silvia and Tony to the CCF Board of Directors. Their leadership will play a key role in advancing CCF’s efforts to build a more inclusive and resilient Los Angeles.
