Artist’s Statement
A dear friend asked me one day, “How can I make work about life if I do not live?” This question, as simple as it may be, profoundly affects the way I work. I move though my environment with sound awareness. I take notes of the mundane. I record patterns and sequences that may seem a disconnect; however, with time, they re-align themselves under a different context, demanding further excavation.
These abstracted vortices of thoughts occupy my mind. I place my body in spaces where I find myself delicately balancing between the confines of the clocking in and the clocking out, the dreams of leaving and dreams of roots, the longing and not BE longing. Words overflow from these experiences. Like laughters and tears, they flow uncontrollably. I collect these tearful, at times, joyful words. I restore them into poetry. Poetry roots my artistic works ranging from performances to installations to sculptures. The open-ended interactive works erase the boundaries between artist and viewer. All, telling stories about migration and survival, about power and the abuse of power subjected upon the powerless.
