mom-joyce-headshot_68kbJoyce Jane Cammilleri lived a full and accomplished life as daughter, sister, wife, mother, teacher, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.   Her philanthropy, however, was one of the aspects of her life of which she was most proud.

During her lifetime, she took great joy in helping those in need.   After the sale of her company, JOICO Laboratories, in 2001 she founded the Joyce Jane Cammilleri Family Fund here at the California Community Foundation with the goal of giving to the following causes:

1. Assistance to organizations engaged in or supporting medical research;
2. Assistance to organizations serving children with disabilities;
3. Assistance to religious organizations, and
4. Assistance to organizations serving economically disadvantaged children.

Through the fund, Joyce and her family have supported numerous causes and organizations dedicated to creating a brighter and healthier future, including USC’s pioneering Brain and Creativity Institute. For more info on Joyce’s life, and to contribute any stories, memories, and photos of Joyce that you might have, please visit her online memorial at:

Gibson InternationalAbout Gibson International Charitable Foundation

“The Gibson International Charitable Foundation strives to make the communities we serve into better places to live through active involvement and financial support for local organizations in need.” This is our mission statement and all of the agents at Gibson International have opened their hearts and embraced its message.

Throughout the year agents generously donate a portion of their commissions so that the Charitable Foundation can contribute to local organizations such as Heal the Bay, Dream Street Foundation, Venice Family Clinic, Guide Dogs of America, YWCA, Disabled American Veterans… and the list goes on and on.

In addition to the monetary donations, the agents at Gibson International also rally their efforts to donate household supplies to shelters, gather coats and blankets for the Mission Project downtown, make sandwiches for PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) and adopt Veteran Families during the Holidays. Giving back is part of who we are at Gibson International!!

Update for the Gibson International Charitable Foundation

Thanks to the generosity of the Gibson International agents, clients, family and friends, the Foundation was able to make grants to over 26 different local organizations to help people and animals in need.

During the Holiday Season the Gibson International Foundation continues to reach out to the community by adopting several veterans and their families and providing food and gifts to brighten their holidays, as well as donating coats and blankets to The Mission Project in downtown LA and collecting toys for children who might not otherwise receive a gift at the holidays.

jthfoundation.org

The Jennifer Taylor Honick Foundation was established by Gigi Michaels in 2000 through The California Community Foundation (CCF), in memory of her daughter Jennifer as a continued celebration of her life and many accomplishments.

Current Project

As an advocate for the disability community, the foundation is currently serving as a fundraising, marketing & development partner for Whirlwind Wheelchair International. We are proud to be a part of an organization that focuses on producing durable, low cost wheelchairs which are distributed in over 60 countries worldwide, while contributing to sustainable local economic development. Whirlwind also makes the proper fitting of the wheelchairs a priority above all else. The RoughRider wheelchair was specifically designed to enable people with physical disabilities to navigate the rugged terrain that is often a major issue in developing countries that would otherwise make independence through mobility inaccessible. The gift of a wheelchair helps those with disabilities to develop a true sense of independence by providing them access to education, social engagement and work opportunities.

“We believe that all children, regardless of their abilities or circumstances should have an opportunity to share in educational and social experiences that enrich their hearts, minds, bodies and souls. And inclusion is one of the most important gifts we can give any child at risk.”

With your support we look forward to continuing to do just that!

THE JTH FOUNDATION is proud to have contributed to many other projects over the years that have included:

SHELTER DEVELOPMENT

  • THE RAIN SHELTER IN CAMARILLO ~ a transitional home for displaced families where two rooms have been built in memory of Jenny.

SCHOLARSHIPS & GRANTS

  • EVERYBODY DANCE ~ Grants for inner city dance program for at-risk youth
  • THE WESTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL DANCE TEAM ~ Scholarships for at-risk youth
  • THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED YOUTH of MARIN COUNTY ~ Scholarships for visually impaired teens
  • THE SANTA BARBARA YMCA ~ Scholarships for at-risk youth
  • LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT ~ Scholarships for disadvantaged youth

PROGRAM FUNDING / SPECIFIC SUPPORT

  • CANINE COMPANIONS FOR INDEPENDENCE ~ A non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs at no charge to the recipient.
  • THE CONEJO VALLEY FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE ~ The Friendship Circle is a non-profit organization that addresses the challenges facing the families of children with special needs in a novel and innovative way.
  • THE STEPHENS HOUSE ~ A transitional programs for young adults with disabilities.
  • MENDING KIDS INTERNATIONAL ~ non-profit organization that provides surgeries to children across the world while training local medical communities to become self-sustaining.

As a donor directed fund, virtually all monies donated are designated directly to people in need. Only 1% of the total fund is used to provide for administrative purposes, which is why CCF was chosen to manage the JTH foundation. As we continue to build the endowment, we look forward to providing many more opportunities for children in need.

Ernest Lieblich Foundation PhotoErnest Lieblich was an avid supporter of children and the arts for many decades. His contributions over the years supported diverse organizations dedicated to providing children with the tools of self-expression through music and art.

Continue Ernest’s support of organizations providing much-needed services to those in need by contributing to his fund.

About Ernest Lieblich

Ernest was drawn to the arts at an early age when he would recite Shakespeare to his family at home in Germany. When he turned 16 his voice changed to a base baritone and he promptly started singing for any audience he could find.

As a young man Ernest was caught in the tumult of World War II and although he had always supposed he would have a singing career, life found a safe haven for him in Portugal with his brother and sister.

Years later Ernest emigrated to the United States, first landing in New York, and working as a busboy near the West Village. He soon got a job as a singing waiter in a Jewish resort for the summer.

Drafted into the army in the early 1940s, Ernest was trained as a combat engineer, but it was discovered he could play the organ and he was re-assigned to Los Angeles where he spent the duration of the war.

Settling in Los Angeles after the war, Ernest began a long and successful business career culminating in his establishment of Food Craft, the pioneer in coffee and refreshment service for commercial businesses in Los Angeles.

Financial success allowed Ernest to pursue his love of music and the arts by supporting organizations that valued musical education for children as a cornerstone to enriching children, families and society.

Ernest was a strong supporter of more than 50 different organizations. Here are a few:

  • Best Friends: A sanctuary for abused and abandoned animals.
  • The Colburn School of Performing Arts: A premier Los Angeles performing arts school.
  • Children of the Night: Rescuing America’s children from prostitution.
  • City Hearts: Provides free classes in performing arts, literacy and visual arts for children.
  • Covenant House: Provides shelter and other services for homeless youth.
  • Harmony Project: Provides music education for children.
  • The HeArt Project: Linking teenagers with professional artists and communities.
