Our Vision
A good life for all in Los Angeles County.
Our Mission
We invest in, partner with, and amplify the power of community toward a good life.
Our Philanthropic Approach
We enable partnerships, investments and champion advocacy for reforms that multiply impact for communities. Recognizing that community members are their own best advocates, we connect those who need support with those committed to driving progress.
The California Community Foundation (CCF) is the community’s foundation, rooted in more than a century of relationships throughout the region and expanding access to a good life for all across Los Angeles. We strengthen communities by responding to the full picture of what shapes people’s lives, with an approach grounded in the distinct needs and aspirations of every part of Los Angeles County. Since 1915, we have worked alongside donors, nonprofits, and communities to tackle the region’s most significant challenges, with a focus on improving conditions for those furthest from opportunity. Today, we work alongside these partners to turn that understanding into meaningful action.
Our place-based approach, organized around the county’s Service Planning Areas so our team can understand each area holistically and respond to its distinct needs, builds on CCF’s long history of helping shape Los Angeles. Since its inception CCF has led critical policy wins, like advancing immigrant inclusion, juvenile justice reform and housing justice — while also supporting major civic milestones such as the building of the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the securing of Los Angeles’ successful bid for the 1984 Olympic Games.
Since 1915 CCF has served as a public, charitable organization for Los Angeles County, funding, organizing and advocating for policies that strengthen the region. CCF stewards more than $2.7 billion in assets and manages 1,900 charitable foundations, funds and legacies — each reflecting a donor’s vision for meaningful change and impact. We align our grantmaking, investments, and advocacy around programs and initiatives that help solve our region’s greatest challenges and create a good life for all.
The Greater Los Angeles region — home to nearly 10 million people — entertains, educates, employs and shapes California and the world. It also faces an ongoing housing affordability and homelessness crisis, uneven access to education and economic challenges that impact the region’s prosperity. The California Community Foundation works to help Los Angeles live up to its full promise for all. We partner with donors, civic leaders and communities to advance innovative solutions to the region’s most pressing challenges and respond quickly when crisis strikes. Every dollar we grant reflects the values and legacies of our donors. Together, we invest in a Los Angeles where every individual has the opportunity to live a good life.
