Artist’s Statement

I am an interdisciplinary artist who works in a research-intensive manner on a project to project basis. I conceive of the exhibition construct as a literary device, in which every aspect of the exhibition experience is an opportunity for re-imagining history. I often use forensic and archival information systems as supports for poetic gestures in order to interrogate the blurred line between fiction and reality in the contemporary world. I seek to highlight the multiple paradoxes which exist at a time in which information and data is more accessible than ever, but knowledge is elusive. I consider the socially-constructed nature of history to be both problematic but also contingent and therefore empowering. In the seams of these constructed histories, I look for small stealthy moves which can leverage new meaning into our collective cultural narrative.
