Community Building Initiative

As the community foundation for Los Angeles County, we strive to make a tangible difference in the lives of all those who live here. In 2006, we decided to concentrate philanthropic resources on one of those cities, engage the entire community and commit to a long-term investment in sustainable social change.

The result was the El Monte Community Building Initiative. By building and boosting the capacity of local leaders and organizations to meet the needs of El Monte’s residents, this 10-year, multimillion dollar commitment helped improve the health, education and career opportunities of families and children in the area through diverse programs from scholarship savings to youth fitness and healthy eating. Its legacy is carried on by the El Monte Promise Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to helping the community work together to ensure that all El Monte students can attend and succeed in college.
