Ensuring Communities Have a Voice

Helping To Support Meaningful Change

PIVOT’s mission is to build political involvement among communities who have lacked access to power historically. We support these innovative power building efforts by investing in the infrastructure that is needed to secure policy reforms.

PIVOT is a first-of-its-kind partnership between California’s leading organizations and funders. Together, we strengthen our state’s civic engagement through community work to make government more responsive to the needs of Californians.

14 grantees
include eight regional and six statewide groups working to ensure that California’s democracy reflects its population – engaging AAPI, Black, and Latinx communities as well as young people, immigrants, and rural communities.
Grants
to 14 organizations, coalitions, and networks reaching more than 70 organizations around the state.
More than $7 million
in multi-year grants

High-Level Overview

California holds significant power and influence over the nation. The state can lead the way in fostering organizing and movement building across geography, race, and lived experience. The state is also a hotbed of civic engagement innovations at the local, regional, and statewide levels.

The Powerful Innovations in Voter Organizing and Transformation (PIVOT) Initiative is a first-of-its-kind partnership between leading organizers and funders to  learn and act together through trust-based philanthropy to invest in organizations, coalitions, and networks that are building enduring civic engagement in communities.

We create opportunities for organizations and funders to learn and act together, creating a new form of participatory grantmaking where power is shared.
