Championing Creativity as a Lever for Change

Los Angeles is the creative capital of the world, home to a thriving arts community and a hub of innovation in entertainment and culture. Yet, beyond the spotlight, many nonprofit arts organizations are doing critical work to bring creativity and self-expression to underserved communities. These organizations often face a lack of funding and recognition, but they are the backbone of LA's vibrant cultural landscape.

Empowering Communities Through Creativity

Create a Canvas of Equity and Expression

The Arts and Culture portfolio at the California Community Foundation focuses on amplifying the voices of emerging Los Angeles artists. Through our work, we aim to:

Diversify the Arts Sector We are committed to advancing the careers of community-based artists, ensuring their perspectives can be heard and celebrated.

Make Art Accessible for All We believe that creativity should be open to everyone, regardless of income. We work to ensure that all Angelenos can experience and participate in the arts.

Support Socially Engaged Art Art has the power to shape society. We fund projects that use creativity to advocate for a fairer, more just world.

Sustaining LA’s Arts Ecosystem

Through our grants and initiatives, we empower communities to pursue careers in the arts, improve working conditions, and foster creative expression that inspires social change.

Our Strategic Priority Projects

Fellowship for Visual Artists

The Fellowship for Visual Artists provides mid-career visual artists with the financial support and professional development they need to thrive. This funding has historically been a crucial steppingstone, offering artists validation and opening new opportunities for growth and exposure.

Executive Directors for Arts and Cultural Inclusion

Starting in 2025, this initiative will bring together executive directors from arts and culture organizations across LA County to collaborate and innovate. The goal is to amplify the work of arts leaders in fostering inclusive, vibrant communities.

Narrative Change

Art can drive cultural and policy shifts. We support projects that challenge the status quo and envision a more equitable future. Whether through documentaries, theater, or arts-driven civic engagement, socially engaged art plays a vital role in advancing social justice and sparking meaningful change.

Together, we can build a more inclusive, creative Los Angeles, where everyone can express themselves and contribute to a just society.
