Pearl C. Hsiung

Pearl C. HsiungArtist’s Statement

My art engages in the relationship between human and nature, the human nature it reveals, and the implications of the ultimate non-duality of it all.

I am interested in the questions and implications that arise when we think that the moon is a face, the mountains are “tetons” or the earth is a mother.

The human act of seeing biological, social and cultural patterns in the natural environment around us and the ontological inquiry it poses is at the core of my practice. I am interested in the how various experiences of nature, whether through intimate interaction, en mass viewing at national parks or via news stories and social media influence how we give meaning to our existence and how we perceive our role in the cosmos.

My painting, video and installation work engage in a constant reorganization and transmogrification of form and content to point to the never-ending process of change and transformation in our earthly world and of the inseparable relationship we have to all matter.
