Jennifer Steinkamp
Artist’s Statement
I work with new media and video to explore artistic ideas about architectural space, motion and perception. My animated, interactive installations have been televised and exhibited internationally. Typically I work with computer animation that fits into architecture with video projection and or LED displays. I investigate perceptual effects that transform the viewers’ understanding of actual space in a synthesis of real space and virtual computer imagery. I am also interested in investigating interactive art using sensors that encourage play while sensing presence. The viewer as a participant becomes part of the work; the audience contemplates its experience of the art while performing as the art.
