Hernández-Stern Scholarship Fund
The Hernández-Stern Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Nicolasa Hernández. Born in rural Mexico, she and her family settled in East Los Angeles in 1956.
A self-taught reader with little formal schooling, Nicolasa believed passionately in the power of education to transform lives. She took the greatest pride in getting her sons and daughters ready for school in the morning and beamed with joy at their graduations. Thanks to Nicolasa’s encouragement, they went on to attend college and earn post-graduate degrees in law, engineering and education.
The achievements of her children and grandchildren provide a living portrait of her legacy: that through hard work, dedication and generosity of spirit, you can change your life, your community and your world.
