STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Having grown up without a great deal of financial resources, I know firsthand how a little can go a long way. My father worked long and hard, well into his seventies before retirement, and both he and my mother, who raised three boys, busied themselves all their lives, to the extent they were able, with civic and community affairs – from scouting to charities and synagogue to the local School District and government – in my Dad’s case, pretty much until the day he died at the age of 100. All the while, they remained die-hard Chicago sports fans as well.
Both came from poor families. Their own parents – my grandparents – struggled to provide for their families and died with little but keepsakes to pass on.
Inspired by the lives they led, The Paradise Family Fund will seek to provide a modest, but hopefully significant, infusion of financial resources where it can do the maximum good for institutions and organizations where a little might go a long way. While it’s possible that the fund may grow to a point where five-figure and larger amounts may someday become feasible, the Fund will primarily disperse 3- and 4-figure amounts, with an emphasis on education, its synergy with the arts, and endeavors that promote active engagement in a sense of community and furthering kindness in its endless struggle against cruelty.
