As I state in my book, maximizing Latinos as employers, employees, consumers and taxpayers is America’s next great opportunity.

My family immigrated from Mexico to the United States in the late 1920s. I was born in East Los Angeles, and my mother emphasized the importance of knowing where we came from. It’s been my privilege to contribute to the Latino community through my years at Univision, the Los Angeles City Council and mostly recently, the publication of my book “Great Potential: Latinos in a Changing America”. I’ve always believed that the nation will benefit tremendously from our community’s potential, and I’m excited to see that potential being realized today.
The California Community Foundation partnered with StoryCorps to record the stories of our Centennial Legacy Society members. StoryCorps is a national nonprofit whose mission is to provide all people with the chance to record, preserve, and share the stories of our lives.
