Grantmaking Effort

With an outpouring of support from individual donors, corporations and foundations, over $28 million from our LA County COVID-19 Response Fund went to support 403 nonprofits. During this ongoing health and economic crisis, CCF continues to work in partnership with community to provide the resources necessary to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and support those disproportionately impacted by this pandemic. Our funding priorities reflect our commitment to rebuilding Los Angeles in a more equitable way.

Funding Priorities

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of working in partnership, across intersections, to address the needs of our most vulnerable communities. Our grantmaking and advocacy expertise, along with deep relationships within communities, help us to understand and address what our region needs to rebuild in a more equitable way. Hardship Assistance – $8,398,990
Supported nonprofits with emergency aid for individuals and families impacted by COVID-19 and other hardship. CCF granted to over 80 organizations providing case management and direct services to the most underserved Angelenos.
Health – $7,010,414
Helped community clinics, hospitals and community-based organizations sustain their response during the COVID-19 pandemic, including CARES Act-funded community health worker outreach, vaccine confidence, and assisting residents with seeking health, food and other public benefits. Efforts helped coordinate care and access across LA County especially for those at greatest risk of health disparities.
Education – $3,635,482
Helped schools and nonprofits respond to the needs of K-12 and postsecondary students and families including efforts to address the digital divide, academic and social-emotional supports, and basic needs like food security. Support was focused on communities disproportionally impacted by the pandemic and the closure of physical campuses, including English learners, students of color, and foster youth.
Housing – $3,289,345
Helped housing providers and homeless shelters respond to needs for social distancing, isolation and increased demand for emergency services. Grants also supported families through a rental recovery pilot program.
Arts – $2,864,938
Supported artists facing hardship and nonprofit arts and cultural organizations in LA County as they rebuild and reimagine a new path forward.
Food Security – $1,425,000
Supported the expansion of food programs by local foodbanks and meal distribution centers. Food insecurity increased with the current economic crisis and is projected to stay at an elevated level for the near future.
Immigration – $1,413,500
Supported nonprofit organizations serving undocumented immigrant families, low-wage workers and day laborers who have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis. Grant funding helped support community education campaigns in partnership with ethnic media to offer trusted information to the community as well as policy and advocacy efforts to advance equitable access to critical services.

Our donor fund holders gave over $90 million directly to nonprofits with more than 89% going to organizations serving Los Angeles County. Building upon the generosity of our donors, CCF has used its discretionary grant dollars to support COVID-19 relief efforts as well. When you add all the COVID relief efforts together, over $119 million dollars have been distributed.
