Be The Change Collective

Be The Change Collective is founded by actor, entrepreneur and philanthropist Joel Kinnaman and his sister, social entrepreneur and anthropologist Sandra Kinnaman Nordström.

The initiative aims to support locally led initiatives with funding, networks and tools so they can sustain and scale ideas that help vulnerable children thrive.

Our vision is that all children have their basic needs met and the tools to develop themselves into successful members of their community.

Launched in 2020, Be The Change Collective started out by supporting an NGO called Bali Life Foundation, that works with the most vulnerable communities on the Indonesian island. After seeing their work in action and being touched by the lives impacted, Be The Change Collective started off by supporting the Bali Life Foundation in their efforts to serve orphans and abused children, the children and families living on the island’s biggest garbage dump, and mothers and children previously making a living as beggars.

When COVID-19 hit, the initiative started supporting the overall operations of the Bali Life Foundation when a lot of their funding was canceled. In addition, an order of 4,000 face masks were placed, to be produced in Bali Life’s women’s workshop, employing and empowering women previously working as waste pickers and/or providing for themselves through begging.

As of 2021 Be The Change Collective is the main funder of Bali Life’s Street Kid Center and women’s workshop, supporting the ongoing education of 50 children. These children previously took to the streets begging together with their mothers. The center also offers ongoing training and employment of 12 mothers in the women’s workshop.

In 2022 we are visiting several initiatives in Mexico City, dedicated to supporting children living in the streets. We will announce our next partner shortly.

Contributions to the California Community Foundation represent irrevocable gifts subject to the legal and fiduciary control of the foundation’s board of directors. This charge will appear on your credit card statement as a payment to “Calif Comm Fdn – CCF”. In addition, California Community Foundation incurs a third-party administrative fee of 2.7 percent for credit card contributions. The foundation will charge the fee directly to the individual fund.
