Álvaro D. Márquez oversees a grants portfolio dedicated to supporting small to mid-size arts organizations serving the diverse residents of Los Angeles County, thus helping to ensure cultural equity in the local arts sector. In addition to this, Marquez runs the Fellowship for Visual Artists, which supports artists in the growth of their careers and provides support for their professional development.

Prior to joining CCF, Márquez worked as an Education Specialist for the J. Paul Getty Museum, where they supervised the Getty Center’s onsite and virtual field trip programs and oversaw partnerships with local community colleges and universities. Marquez has also worked for several large and small arts organizations, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA), Self Help Graphics and Art, and P.S. Arts. In addition to their work at in the arts and culture sector, Marquez has also taught at local universities including the University of Southern California, CSU Los Angeles, CSU Long Beach, and the Los Angeles Community College District, where they have taught a variety of subjects, from Art to U.S. History and Latin American Studies.

Márquez holds an M.A. in American Studies and Ethnicity with an emphasis on Visual and Cultural Studies from the University of Southern California, an MFA in Printmaking from CSU Long Beach, and a Bachelors in US History from Brown University, where they graduated with honors as a Mellon Mays Fellow. In the summer of 2023, Marquez was also selected as a Fellow for the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures’ Leadership Institute, held in San Antonio, TX.
