The California Community Foundation works with several special grant programs created to meet the interests of donors or partnering foundations. Each of these grant programs has its own guidelines, application and review process.
Brief descriptions of current special grant programs are listed below.
Centinela Medical Funds
The Centinela Medical Care Fund and Centinela Medical Community Fund support eligible hospitals and community-based organizations that provide health care, medically related services and health education to economically disadvantaged residents in the Centinela Valley and surrounding areas.
Priorities include access to primary, specialty, diagnostic and inpatient care for medically indigent children, elderly and vulnerable adults; prevention, education, early detection and control of chronic medical conditions and diseases; and increased enrollment and retention of health care coverage. Applications are solicited through a separate Request for Proposal process.
Dolphin Change Fund
The Dolphin Change Program Fund awards grants to agencies addressing homelessness in Santa Monica. Spare change and other contributions are collected in dolphin sculptures placed on the Third Street Promenade and Main Street in Santa Monica. Each year, these grants are awarded at the Westside Shelter and Hunger Coalition’s Celebrating Success event. Applications are solicited by invitation only.
The Eisner Foundation
The Eisner Foundation assists organizations to undertake innovative and concrete programs to enhance and enrich the lives of children who are underserved, or who have learning disabilities, and their families.
Its priorities include after-school programs, learning differences, K-12 public education (including incorporating arts into education), parent education, childcare, prevention and treatment for abuse and neglect, and access to basic medical care. FEDCO Charitable Foundation
The FEDCO Foundation provides small grants for full-time public school teachers serving students in grades K-12 in Cerritos, Culver City, Norwalk La Mirada, Pasadena and Los Angeles Unified School Districts.
Priorities include hands-on, classroom, or “real-world” field trips that encourage experiential learning, enhance student understanding, and increase student achievement in core subject areas: language arts, mathematics, science or social studies. Applications are solicited through a separate Request for Proposal process.
Fellowships for Visual Artists [formerly Visual Arts Initiative]
The California Community Foundation provides support to serve the needs of local artists and arts organizations annually. Grant types include fellowships for emerging and mid-career individual artists. Applications are solicited through a separate Request for Proposal process.
Iraq Afghanistan Deployment Impact Fund
The Iraq Afghanistan Deployment Impact Fund (IADIF) was created to provide funding to nonprofit organizations that offer direct services and other forms of assistance to American military personnel and/or their families who have been impacted by deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan.
A special grant program of the California Community Foundation, IADIF grants are administered independently and grant proposals are by invitation only.
Long Beach Navy Memorial Heritage Association
The Long Beach Navy Memorial Heritage Association (LBNMHA) Fund was created to preserve the heritage and historic sites of Long Beach, recognize the contributions of the Long Beach Naval Station and Shipyard to the City of Long Beach, and honor the work of architect Paul Revere Williams. Applications are solicited through a separate application process.
Thelma Pearl Howard Foundation
The Thelma Pearl Howard Foundation provides support to projects or programs in Los Angeles County that focus on arts-based educational enrichment activities for children in kindergarten through eighth grade.
