Through their creative endeavors, these artists help build social capital, bridge cultural barriers and celebrate Los Angeles County's rich diversity .
The community foundation would also like to recognize the efforts of the panelists who had the arduous task of reviewing numerous applications and an even more difficult and challenging task of selecting the eight mid-career and three emerging artist fellows.
Panelists for the 2008 Fellowships for Visual Artists:
- Lauri Firstenberg, Ph.D., founder and curator/director of LA><ART
- Malik Gaines,
executive director, Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum
- Mark Steven Greenfield, artist and director, Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery for the Department of Cultural Affairs
- Dan Kwong, award-winning solo performance artist, writer, teacher, playwright and visual artist and 2004 Fellowships for Visual Artists recipient
- Monica Majoli, artist, 2002 Fellowships for Visual Artists recipient, and U.C. Irvine assistant professor in studio art
