Pomona Community Leaders Meet With President of California Community Foundation:
Hernández Vows to Build Strong Relationships

Los Angeles—More than 70 nonprofit and civic leaders in the Pomona community met Thursday night with the new president and CEO of the California Community Foundation, Antonia Hernández, in an effort to strengthen ties between the city and the community foundation. The evening reception was hosted by Ron Vera, a member of the board of directors of the Pomona-based Los Angeles County Fair Association.

Prominent San Gabriel Valley community leaders in attendance included Jim Burke, former dean of and current professor at Cal Poly Pomona, Julie Boyton, executive director of Project Sister, Mike Driebe, director of development at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, Pam Morgan, executive director of the Pomona Chamber of Commerce, Superior Court Judge Tom Nuss, and others.

Hernández, president and CEO of the community foundation, spoke to guests about her desire to increase outreach to the city of Pomona.

“We want to be a partner and a vehicle for those who want to improve their community,” says Hernández. “We want to be known as an organization that truly makes a positive impact on all of the various communities that make up our diverse region.”

The community foundation has invested close to $1 million in the Pomona community over the past five years, primarily through its scholarship and donor advised funds, special initiatives and discretionary grantmaking.

Under Hernández’s leadership, the community foundation aims to strengthen ties and build partnerships with the many diverse communities that make up our great region, including communities based on race, ethnicity or culture, sexual orientation or geographic location.

Established in 1915, the California Community Foundation — one of the largest and most active philanthropic organizations in Southern California — is dedicated to making grants to nonprofit organizations serving the many communities of Los Angeles County.
