Los Angeles Couple Donates Social Security Checks To Help Less Fortunate Seniors:
Secure Seniors Fund Will Benefit Older Adults in L.A.

Los Angeles — The California Community Foundation announced today the creation of the Secure Seniors Fund, which will benefit low-income senior citizens throughout Los Angeles County.

The fund was established when Jay and Linda Sandrich of Beverly Hills, longtime fund holders at the California Community Foundation, approached the community foundation with their desire to use their Social Security checks to help older Angelenos who are dependent on Social Security — or social services — to survive.

The Secure Seniors Fund will be supported by unneeded Social Security checks and other contributions from charitable Angelenos who want to help low-income seniors live healthy, independent lives. Grants will be made to nonprofit organizations that help older adults maintain their independence by providing housing, caregiving, and other types of assistance.

Antonia Hernández, president and CEO of the California Community Foundation, believes this unique opportunity to help older, less-fortunate Angelenos will appeal to members of both “The Greatest Generation” and the “Baby Boomer” generation.

“There are many older adults in Los Angeles who don’t need their social security checks to maintain their quality of life,” says Hernández. “We believe they are interested in helping their less fortunate counterparts who need the type of services this fund will support.”

“Of course, we’re also encouraging other Angelenos who care about this rapidly-growing issue to contribute to the fund — even if they don’t yet receive a monthly social security check,” adds Hernández.

Cash contributions to the fund can be made via check or a secure donation online. Checks should be made out to the Secure Seniors Fund and sent to the California Community Foundation, 445 S. Figueroa St., Suite 3400, Los Angeles, CA 90071.

For further information on how to contribute to this fund or to learn more about the grantmaking process, please contact the California Community Foundation at (213) 413-4130.

Established in 1915, the California Community Foundation is one of the largest and most active philanthropic organizations in Southern California, with assets of more than $750 million. In partnership with its donors, the foundation supports nonprofit organizations and public institutions with funds for health and human services, affordable housing, early childhood education, community arts and culture and other areas of need.
