California Community Foundation Recommends Five Nonprofits To Support Tsunami Relief and Recovery Efforts
Los Angeles — In response to the widespread devastation caused by the recent earthquake and subsequent tsunamis that swept across the Indian Ocean, the California Community Foundation recommends the following nonprofit organizations to those who are interested in supporting relief and recovery efforts in the affected areas of South Asia:
Details of the work of these organizations can be found by clicking on the links above. Each is accepting monetary contributions from the public to support their efforts.
Community foundation staff contacted each organization to determine its ability to provide immediate and longer-term support to the devastated communities. Each organization has on-the-ground staff or partners in the affected areas and first-hand knowledge of the growing needs there.
Donors with charitable gift funds at the California Community Foundation who wish to support recovery efforts may make donations from their donor advised funds. Those interested may contact our donor services manager, Erin Tanenbaum, at (213) 413-4130.
Established in 1915, the California Community Foundation is one of the largest and most active philanthropic organizations in Southern California, with assets of more than $670 million. In partnership with its donors, the foundation supports nonprofit organizations and public institutions with funds for health and human services, affordable housing, early childhood education, community arts and culture and other areas of need.
