Eighteen-month support to expand and promote the use of the California Military Financial Assistance Fund, available to members of the California National Guard currently or formerly deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan and their families. The California National Guard Financial Assistance Fund was established to provide short term, financial assistance in the form of grants to California National Guard members and their families who have experienced significant financial issues brought on by their deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) or Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).

Two-year support to establish the Florida BRAIVE Fund, a statewide regranting program that identifies and makes grants to local nonprofit organizations providing programs and services that address the unmet needs of Florida's military personnel and their families impacted by deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Community Foundation of Jacksonville works to stimulate philanthropy to build a better community. As the oldest community foundation in Florida, established in 1964, it has assets of $161 million. The Community Foundation of Jacksonville partners with the Dade Community Foundation and the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice to administer the Florida BRAIVE Fund.

Two-year support to establish the Florida BRAIVE Fund, a statewide regranting program that identifies and makes grants to local nonprofit organizations providing programs and services that address the unmet needs of Florida's military personnel and their families impacted by deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan. Dade Community Foundation provides grants to help support nonprofit organizations that promote education, arts and culture, economic development, health care and more. From 1985 to the present, the foundation’s assets grew from about $4 million to $167 million and distributed more than $170 million in grants. The Dade Community Foundation partners with the Community Foundation of Jacksonville and the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice to administer the Florida BRAIVE Fund.

1) Two-year support and $5 million to develop and implement the TRIAD (Texas Resources for Iraq and Afghanistan Deployed) Fund, a collaborative statewide regranting program that identifies and makes grants to support local nonprofit organizations providing programs and services that address unmet needs of Texas-based military personnel and their families impacted by deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan.

2) Continued support and $7.5 million to expand the successful TRIAD Fund.

The Dallas Foundation is Texas’ oldest community foundation. Established in 1929, the Dallas Foundation serves as a resource, leader and catalyst for philanthropy by providing donors with a flexible means of making gifts to charitable causes that enhance our community and beyond. The Dallas Foundation partners with the Permian Basin Area Foundation and the San Antonio Area Foundation to administer the TRIAD Fund.

As the community foundation of Venice, Fla., the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice supports the areas of arts and culture, health and human services, education, civic affairs and the environment. In addition to awarding grants that benefit its region, the foundation gives charitable individuals the power to make a difference in their community. The Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice partners with the Dade Community Foundation and the Community Foundation of Jacksonville to administer the Florida BRAIVE Fund.

Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund

Support to provide financial assistance to Marines injured in Iraq or Afghanistan, veterans and their families.

Created in 2004, the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund provides financial assistance to Marines and sailors and their families to help defray the expenses incurred during hospitalization, rehabilitation and recovery. Financial assistance is offered to support families during a loved one’s recovery, to purchase or modify transportation to accommodate various injuries and for other specialized equipment needs to help improve the quality of life for injured service members.

Three-year support for college tuition and financial assistance for children of Marine and Navy parents whose OEF and OIF deployments have resulted in significant financial hardship for their families. Since 1962, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation has provided financial assistance in the form of scholarships to deserving sons and daughters of current or former United States Marines in their pursuit of higher education. A very limited number of scholarships are available to children of Navy Corpsmen who serve or have served with Marines.

Support to expand financial assistance and case management services to needy Michigan National Guard families impacted in OIF and OEF.

The Michigan National Guard Family Fund was created to help Air and Army National Guard families that experience financial difficulties with temporary emergency financial assistance, and to fund programs and training to maintain and improve the quality of life of Michigan National Guard families.

Support to expand emergency financial assistance and provide mental health counseling and recovery services to American military personnel and their families who are experiencing hardship as a result of deployment to Iraq and/or Afghanistan. Since 2002, Operation Homefront has provided aid to military families struggling not only with emergencies, but also the problems of everyday life. It operates dozens of chapters in states with the highest rates of deployment. Operation Homefront hosts the Web community Operation Homefront Online, an online community that includes resources for veterans and their families.

Three-year support of fine arts programs, sports and recreational activities, academic tutoring and other enrichment programs that help children of deployed and veteran National Guard and Reserve OEF and OIF troops stay focused and perform at their grade levels during stressful periods when their parents are deployed and/or recovering from war-related injuries or illness. Our Military Kids provides tangible support to the children of deployed National Guard and Military Reserve personnel and to the children of the severely injured service members through grants for sports, fine arts and tutoring that nurture and sustain the children during the time a parent is deployed. The organization was created in 2004.

Founded in 1989, the Permian Basin Area Foundation facilitates the creation of permanent charitable funds in partnership with many donors and provides grants to address changing community needs and enrich the quality of life in the Permian Basin. The Permian Basin Area Foundation partners with the Dallas Foundation and the San Antonio Area Foundation to administer the TRIAD Fund.

A publicly supported philanthropic institution, the San Antonio Area Foundation is governed by a board of private citizens chosen for their knowledge of and involvement in the community. For 45 years, it has successfully administered funds from individuals, agencies, corporations and others who contribute or bequeath assets for the betterment of the community. The San Antonio Area Foundation partners with the Dallas Foundation and the Permian Basin Area Foundation to administer the TRIAD Fund.

1) Two-year support to dramatically expand the size and scope of financial aid to families impacted by deployment in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, and to provide general operating support to USA Cares as it expands resources in service to the target population.

2) Support of $2 million to expand this agency’s capacity to meet rapidly increasing requests for emergency financial assistance, case management and referral services from troops, veterans and their families facing serious financial hardship related to OEF/OIF deployment.

With an expanding nationwide staff, USA Cares continues to grow to meet the needs of young families facing a variety of challenges because of service to the country. Trained and experienced resource coordinators work with each military family, from all services and branches, to address such basic needs as food, housing and transportation, along with the particular needs of the injured since 2003.
