CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
AWARDS $2.9 MILLION TO BENEFIT LOS ANGELES
LOS ANGELES — The California Community Foundation (CCF) on Thursday awarded nearly $3 million to 30 nonprofit organizations in the arts, education, health care, human services, community building and affordable housing serving low-income communities in Los Angeles County.
“It’s critical that we support the great work of our grantees during these challenging times,” said Antonia Hernández, president and CEO at the foundation. “These grants can help them respond better to growing demand for their services and ultimately become more sustainable.”
Competitive grants range from $47,500 to $175,000. Of these, more than half are renewal grants to help nonprofits weather the economic crisis. Providing core operating support gives grantees the flexibility to use the funds to improve their programs and operations – both of which are imperative now more than ever.
Grant recipients include: California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE), which provides parents with skills and knowledge to support their children’s learning; The San Gabriel Valley Foundation for Economic Growth, which will assess economic development opportunities in El Monte with the help of The Planning Center; Skid Row Housing Trust, which builds and preserves permanent housing; and WISE and Healthy Aging, which provides adult day care services and advocacy for the elderly.
