California Community Foundation Awards $2.5 Million to 27 Nonprofits

LOS ANGELES — The California Community Foundation (CCF) on Thursday announced more than $2.5 million in grants to 27 nonprofit organizations in the arts, social services, education, health care, affordable housing and legal services serving low-income communities in Los Angeles County. The grants will support core operating expenses, as well as capacity building, policy/advocacy, technical assistance and capital project efforts. The awards range from $50,000 to $300,000 and are mostly renewals to existing grantees.

“Despite signs of an economic recovery, most nonprofits are still facing funding challenges as demand for their services increases,” said Antonia Hernández, president and CEO at the foundation. “It is critical that we continue to support the work of these outstanding organizations that help our most vulnerable populations in Los Angeles County.”

Grant recipients include: South Bay Family Healthcare Center, to sustain and expand primary care and specialty care services at the Dr. Claudia Hampton Clinic in Inglewood; Teach for America, to support at least 375 new teachers in underserved and low-performing schools in the Compton, Los Angeles and Pasadena Unified School Districts; Alliance for Children’s Rights, to protect the rights of youth currently or formerly placed in foster care throughout L.A. County; LTSC Community Development Corporation, to produce service-enriched affordable housing for families and individuals; and Robey Theatre Company, to produce original and classical works about the black experience.
