Grantmaking Essentials for Donors Workshop
Feb. 20, 2007
The California Community Foundation hosted a Grantmaking Essentials for Donors Workshop in February. At this interactive workshop, donors learned how to evaluate nonprofit organizations when recommending a grant. Evaluation elements include program content as well as the operational, leadership and fiscal health of an organization. For example, when assessing three agencies that address homelessness, donors were asked to look at each organization's compelling needs. Donors were then instructed to gauge the effectiveness of each organization in addressing the needs of their clients.
The workshop also identified the elements that could be used to measure a nonprofit organization's health, as shown in the following slide:

All participating donors received a handbook with workshop information and additional resources.
