What are they?
With a designated fund at the California Community Foundation, you can choose a specific nonprofit and direct your grantmaking to that organization alone. Alternatively, a designated fund — which is sometimes referred to as a restricted fund — allows you to specify multiple nonprofit organizations that are of particular interest to you.
If one of the nonprofits changes its mission or type of services, or if it closes down, the program staff at the foundation directs your grantmaking to a comparable organization. Your philanthropic legacy continues to do the work you intended.
Not only do you support the organizations of your choice — you ensure that your gift will remain relevant over time.
Highlights
- The organizations you specify benefit from your fund.
- The foundation can redirect your grant dollars should one of the organizations you have specified change its mission or close down.
- The organizations that you designate will be monitored by our team to ensure that your grant dollars are being used in an optimal manner.
- You don’t have to worry about remembering to make grants each year. Your fund can be set up to award quarterly or annual grants to your favorite organizations.
- Designated funds can accept donations of almost any asset, including stock and real estate.
