The Arts & Culture Fund is a special pool of money that supports arts and culture in Los Angeles County through grants and partnerships. The fund seeks to expand an endowment so that some $1 million a year in grants can be given to help local arts groups and artists. The fund is part of the foundation's efforts to raise more unrestricted funds and maximize its impact in the community.

Why Arts & Culture?
As the foundation seeks to improve Los Angeles communities, the need for arts funding in the City of Los Angeles is dire considering public grant awards per capita stand at 78 cents compared with San Diego at $5.48 and San Francisco at $20.67. Arts and culture reflect and help shape our community as they create connections between diverse populations. Arts and culture also play a pivotal role in promoting civic engagement, which is central to the foundation’s mission of strengthening Los Angeles communities. Visual arts, theater, dance and music help people gain a deeper understanding of each other and find common ground.
Goals
- Increase participation of diverse, ethnic and low-income individuals and communities in the arts
- Help local emerging and mid-career artists move to the next level of their careers
- Raise the fund's assets from $17 million to $27 million by 2015, increasing the grantmaking budget for the arts from $800,000 to more than $1 million and nearly doubling the endowment for arts and culture to support more arts and cultural organizations and artists
