Block Scheduling / Concentrated Curriculum

The etapa structure of ¡Ya verás! Gold is uniquely well-suited to the challenges and promises of longer class periods. The etapa is, in fact, a lesson plan for a 90- to 100-minute class, during which vocabulary and structures are introduced, practiced and reinforced by student performance. The closely integrated components provide for the variety of instructional approaches that longer class periods demand, while assuring that students' attention remains focused on developing language accuracy in specific functions and contexts. Moreover, the longer instructional periods allow students to receive immediate feedback from performance and other types of evaluations, a motivating experience which keeps them learning more efficiently and effectively.

The following suggested pacing for ¡Ya verás! Gold level 1 includes time for presentation, practice, performance, evaluation and enrichment.

• 6 units with 3 chapters per unit
• One unit presented every 15 instructional days
• One chapter presented every 5 instructional days
• First chapter of each unit (3 etapas): 1-1/2 instructional days per etapa, 1/2 day leeway
• Second and third chapters (2 etapas each): 2 instructional days per etapa
• Ya llegamos: 2 instructional days
