Los Angeles County’s future vitality and prosperity depend on a well-educated future workforce. Currently, students from low-income communities, students of color, English learners, students with disabilities and other underrepresented students lack access to quality pre-kindergarten learning experiences, highly qualified teachers and sufficient educational resources. The result is significant disparities in achievement among Los Angeles County’s student subgroups.

Goal:

Increase K-5 student performance in math and literacy in Los Angeles County among low-income, minority and English learner students.

To achieve this goal, the foundation supports organizations whose work:

INCORPORATES THESE STRATEGIES

WILL LIKELY RESULT IN THESE OUTCOMES
Quality, early childhood learning opportunities that increase school readiness. Children entering kindergarten ready to learn, with pre-literacy and math skills.
Parental engagement that promotes children’s reading and learning. Parents who become active participants in their children’s learning at home and in formal educational settings.
Quality, professional development that provides teachers with the instructional strategies necessary to meet the learning needs of diverse student populations. Improve teacher quality.
