Joel Garcia & Self Help Graphics | Chalchiuhtlicue
Chalchiuhtlicue is a created in collaboration with artists Joel Garcia, Gabby Claro, Arleny Vargas, and Melissa Govea. The wings highlight the notion that through a great understanding of heritage and support of the arts in Los Angeles, we can support future generations to flourish into leaders. Symbols the Latino struggle are also depicted within the wings. The body of the angel is an homage to the previous Self Help Graphics & Arts building through the use of mosaic mirrored tiles which will allow visitors to use as a point of reflection. The mosaic also represents the piecing together of our multi-dimensional histories and trauma and through concept of Coyolxauhqui (the Aztec moon goddess) as we are healing ourselves and our future generations.
